Biometrics and what you should know
My husband hates going to the doctor. I’m pretty sure he would rather change diapers for a month straight before volunteering to get an annual exam. As a wife, mother, nurse and fan girl of my main squeeze this is concerning. I started to think about how many other people avoid the doctor. My guess is way too many. How do you know if you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol? What if you’re a diabetic and you don’t know it? I preceded to ramble on about how knowledge is power and early detection of cardiovascular disease is the key.
I have to admit, I bragged about how I work for Cascade Health. In the Wellness department, we recognize a need in our community to bring awareness and education to the workforce. Our company goes out to local businesses and performs biometric screenings right in the comfort of their work place. No leaving work, no missed lunches for appointments, no co-pays. It’s a win-win.
What is a biometric screening? Great question. A biometric screening is a blood screening that identifies your cardiovascular risk. It includes a total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglyceride, and glucose levels by a simple finger stick. It also evaluates your BMI, blood pressure, height and weight. You get the results right away and it only takes less than 15 minutes. The best part, some companies offer incentive programs that give a discount to your monthly insurance premiums.
If you’re an employer who is interested in setting up biometrics for your employees, I’m your gal! Just give me a call at 541-228-3096 or email me at aroyer@cascadehealth.org. If you think your employer should check this out (which they totally should) then forward them a link to this blog!-Adrienne Royer, Cascade Health Wellness RN and Biometrics Evangelist
