Navigating Our Workforce

Dr. Kovacevic talks to Medical Matters

Dr. Luci Kovacevic, Medical Director of Cascade Occupational Health, is featured in this month’s issue of Medical Matters, the magazine of Lane County Medical Society. The article, “Navigating Our Workforce,” highlights the role of occupational and environmental medicine in keeping our workforce healthy and delves into Dr. Kovacevic’s work on community health initiatives, like the COVID-19 response and a nascent telehealth program that will address workers’ health concerns quickly and help them return to work as soon as possible. At Cascade Health, we were especially grateful for his expertise during the pandemic, when his input on our COVID risk-assessment and policy development allowed us to remain exceptionally safe and available to care for our patients.

As the Medical Matters article emphasizes, occupational medicine is about more than reducing injuries and implementing safety protocols; it touches on everything from addiction to diabetes prevention to maintaining mental health. Dr. Kovacevic says in the article, “Something we see a lot of in occupational medicine is if people are injured, they have a tendency to lose social connectedness and a sense of belonging.”

Thank you, Medical Matters, for helping raise awareness of occupational medicine and its importance to worker wellness.
