Spotlight on New Horizons
Supporting the IDD Community
March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and the organizations that support them. We’re proud to spotlight one of our fantastic community partners, New Horizons, which serves the IDD community with dedication and passion.
A Holistic Approach to Care
New Horizons has a long history of serving the IDD community. While the organization provides comprehensive in-home care to a wide variety of clients, including seniors and others who need assistance at home, there is a special passion for supporting people with IDD. With a mission of empowering well-being through comprehensive care and companionship, New Horizons provides support unique to each individual, helping clients lead independent, fulfilling and healthy lives by providing as much or as little support as they need.
Caregivers at New Horizons help clients achieve the goals important to them, whether it’s finding employment, building life skills or engaging more actively in the community. One client shared, “My caregiver is wonderful. They do so much for me that I can't do for myself. I don't know what I’d do without their services.”
Personalized Support for Every Individual
Recognizing that every individual has different needs, New Horizons provides customized support that ranges from basic assistance to comprehensive care. Its team offers behavioral support, medical support and community living support, which could include hygiene assistance, meal planning, budgeting and banking, pursuing hobbies and more.
For families, this level of care is invaluable. A mother of one client expressed her gratitude, saying, “New Horizons provides exceptional care for my medically fragile daughter, helping her to continue to live a comfortable and happy life at home with her family.”
A Dedicated and Skilled Team
New Horizons’ commitment to providing all-inclusive care sets it apart from other in-home care services. The team includes direct service providers, behavioral specialists and nurses who collaborate to offer the highest level of support. Beyond their in-house expertise, they also build connections with other community resources, such as home health services, to ensure clients have everything they need. Ongoing education and training are also a cornerstone of the New Horizons approach, ensuring that caregivers stay up to date with best practices in the field.
Making a Difference
Thank you, New Horizons, for the lasting impact your team makes on the lives of individuals with IDD. Your work matters – during Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and in every month of the year.
