Volunteering

Our volunteers make all the difference

Cascade Health’s Hospice and Palliative Care volunteers are valued members of our Hospice family.  When you volunteer, you become an integral part of the team, caring for patients with life-limiting illnesses.  No experience is required.  Your 1-year commitment to volunteering with Cascade Hospice ensures you will receive a free intensive 30-hour training program that will prepare you to provide emotional support and assistance to patients and their caregivers.  To ensure your success, you will receive monthly educational opportunities and support as well.  Our goal is to help patients have a full life, no matter the length of time.  By being a compassionate volunteer, our training can prepare you for a life-changing opportunity to serve the terminally ill.

What do hospice volunteers do?

Hospice and Palliative Care volunteers provide a variety of services including:

  • Home respite visits – up to 4 hours/week to relieve the caregiver, run errands, etc.
  • Facility companionship visits – up to 2 hours, 1-2x/week to give patients one-on-one time
  • Complementary services – massage, music, art, pets, therapeutic touch, videos and more
  • Vigil volunteers – sit with patients in their final hours who have no family/friends available
  • Administrative program support – data entry, phone calls, bereavement and events

How to become a volunteer:

Hospice volunteer caregivers possess very special qualities.  We ask that you be emotionally mature, dependable, flexible and non-judgmental.

  1. Download our Hospice Volunteer Application and e-mail, regular mail, or fax it to 541-228-3182.
  2. Upon receipt of your completed volunteer application the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator will call to schedule a personal interview.
  3. Attend all 30-hours of training.
  4. Complete required documentation, have TB test and pass Criminal Background Check.

Bring that extra added layer of comfort to those in need.  You will be forever grateful for the experience!
